After several months of waiting, when we witnessed another of the many “leaks” related to the new Pixels 4 almost weekly, today was finally officially introduced, and this time, Google demonstrated that it attaches great importance to cameras.

Nobody doubted that the new Pixels 4 were going to be great at taking pictures – especially after the experience with previous generations of Pixels, which have always ranked among the absolute best. This time, however, Google decided to bet on a pair of lenses. Unlike the iPhone 11, which now boasts an ultra-wide-angle lens, Google has a proven telephoto lens. And what new features will the Pixel 4 (XL) bring?
Improved Night Sight
The night photo discipline has become very popular with today’s flagship, and everyone knows that Google’s Pixels have long reigned it. However, the new night mode goes further and during the presentation we could see really fantastic looking images of the night sky full of details of individual stars and other cosmic bodies. However, you will also find improvements in taking pictures during more standard situations, such as in the whirlwind of nightlife or in generally poorly lit places.

Live HDR +
Live HDR + is also improved, which now shows users much more of what the resulting photo looks like. With a more powerful Image Processing chip, a preview of the resulting image appears almost identical to the result. Another new feature is the possibility to edit individual parts of the image directly in the photo preview and to work better with light (and darkness).
White balance using machine learning
The problem of white balance is troubling a lot of smartphones and not always an ideal result. One option is to edit it after taking a photo. The new Pixel 4 relies on machine learning to make white balance work much better.
Super Res Zoom
This telephoto lens has a double optical zoom, which, as you will admit, is not something that would make the phone extraordinarily appealing at 2019. However, Google has sophisticated software on its sleeve that enables a really good looking multiple (digital) zoom. We do not yet know how this has been achieved.
We’ve upgraded the camera to # pixel4. The new telephoto lens and Super Res Zoom technology let you capture sharp imagery, even from far away. And with Live HDR +, you can see exactly how your photo will look before you shoot. ???? #madebygoogle pic.twitter.com/PoVxXCsSJo

Improved portrait mode
With the advent of the second sensor, portrait mode will be improved to better separate the subject from the background. Problematic hair or fur in pets should thus properly separate the phone from the background and raise the level of portrait shots.
